The Shell and LAUGFS gas companies have sought the Consumer Affairs Authority’s permission to increase the price of a refilled domestic gas cylinder (12.5 kg) by Rs.100 to Rs. 200 with effect from May 1. The board of the Consumer Affairs Authority met on April 27 to discuss the matter and deferred its decision. It is to meet again today to decide. The gas companies maintain that the increase is necessary as the price of domestic cooking gas has gone up in the world market.
