LAUGFS IT won a Special Merit Award at e

Thilak De Silva (Managing Director of LAUGFS Holdings), Kanishka Weeramunda (Chief Information Officer of LAUGFS Holdings), Buddhika Amarasinghe (Programmer), Thilanga Liyanage (Programmer)LAUGFS Holdings’ Corporate Information Technology (IT) Department was acknowledged with a Special Merit Award for the development of its own in-house developed LAUGFS Car Care Vehicle Maintenance System at the prestigious National Best e-content Award ‘e-Swabhaimani 2012’ recently.

The award marks the second time that LAUGFS Corporate IT has been recognized having previously secured the Merit Award for another of its in-house developed systems, ‘Intranet’ at the National Best Quality ICT Awards 2012 (NBQSA), organized by the BCS The Chartered Institute for IT Sri Lanka (BCSSL) Section in October last year.

The e-Swabhaimani awards, organized by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) place a particular emphasis on recognizing local developers who use ICT in an innovative fashion to create value for their companies whilst also promoting a more inclusive information society.

“We are very pleased to have our work recognized and we feel these awards will help our development team to continue innovating and producing more award-grade applications and thereby help us to further tap their true potential as developers of LAUGFS Corporate IT.” Chief Information Officer, LAUGFS Holdings, Kanishka Weeramunda said.

Going forward, LAUGFS Corporate IT aims to develop more applications in the field of Near Field Communication (NFC) Technology, included a comprehensive roll out of a fuel and retail card integrated solution to compliment the company’s loyalty programme.

NFC technology is a system steadily gaining popularity internationally whereby customers can complete transactions by bringing their mobile phones into contact with NFC devices. The system is already gaining widespread usage in countries like Singapore and Australia.

The team is also involved in a full bill payment solution with a focus on customer convenience and time saving. The system is already in use at Laugfs Retail outlets…
